The final exhibition will showcase her latest creations and collaborations, including All the Birds, Murmur, A Little Bird Told Me, The Amber Tree, WeDraw, Drawing Conversations and Drawing Circles. Her art practice uses drawing as a way to tune in to ourselves and connect with one another and our earth, Brew aims to amplify the urgent alarm call of the world's birds, tapping in to the power of drawing.
Brew will share her collaborative drawing methods and current projects and will run many collaborative drawing workshops during the week, including Drawing to Problem Solve, Sensory drawing, Drawing Growth, Drawing Conversations and DoBeDo.

VIRTA / FLOW

Welcome to VIRTA - time and space for deep reflection, listening, and grounding
In July every year, Finnish artist Emma Fält opens her family land to local and international artists, drawers and creatives, offering a magical space to explore creativity and drawing practices. 2024 will be the 3rd residency, following PUU / WOOD 2019 and MAA / GROUND 2023. Artist Angie Brew co-hosts the week.

Please join us in our Finnish lakeside studios to explore personal and collective creative paths and to build a supportive community of practise. Together we will create a practical book for artists and educators, with our insights and advice on how to open doors and unlock drawers.
Please send us a short statement, max 100 words, to brewdrawing@gmail.com, outlining why you would like to attend the residency.
Costs will be kept to a minimum, to cover expenses. £380, excluding accommodation. You have the option of booking a bedroom with us in the studio house (very low cost), camping on our land, or finding your own local accommodation.

For 2024 we have accommodation in cabins and camping on the idyllic site, by our lake. The private land is by a lake, tranquil, with loads of space, land, and its own little pier, and rowing boat.

The residency is open to all, offering a space for sharing of practice, collaboration, and investigation of new possibilities and methods. We explore new ways to use drawing to communicate, express, think and understand, especially collaborative drawing methods, and their power to problem solve and heal.
The 2024 theme is FLOW, to follow our WOOD and GROUND themes from previous residencies. You are invited to interpret FLOW however you desire, thinking of water, air and / or mental state.

Residents are embedded in Finnish culture for the week, staying on Emma's family land, meeting local artists and musicians, and joining community events.
We will help you with your travel arrangements, possible car pooling etc. Arrivals 28th July, Departures 3rd August.
